In particular we thank UNIRE, which with its Contribution permitted the event to come true, we thank the Council of the City of Meran represented by the Mayor of the City, Mr. Gunter Januth and we thank Merano Maia SpA in its totality starting from the Presidency, through the Directors and the Office and Track Workers. We of course thank Sponsors & Partners, who believed, once again, in this Event, we are happy to organize every year. The 3rd Edition of Jockey Cup started with a wonderful sun in the valley, which permitted the public, over 6.000 participants, to have a unique beautiful day!!

It was in fact a very unique day, because not everybody among the audience new that on 19th July in Maia Racecourse they would saw “him”, the "living legend" of the international gallop, the man who won more Groups 1 races than anybody else in the world. Yes, just "him" - Mr. Lanfranco “Frankie” Dettori!! Frankie did not win any race during the Jockey Cup 2009 meeting, but he let win Maia Racecourse, the Italian Gallop and most of all us as we based the hope of the best performance of the entire event's organization on his presence (mentioning the disastrous state of the national gallop sector). Well, the result was amazing (whatever the comment of the so called “journalist”, Giorgio Bergamaschi of “Il Trotto and Turf”, besides the partner of the Event Sic! can be..). It is because over 6.000 persons came to see Lanfranco & Company (4.000 tickets sold, 1.200 ladies with the free entrance, 300 children of every age, 500 of organization workers, Owners, Trainers and Authorities) the betting turnover was of over 745.000 Euro there was the prestigious attendance of such a important persons like the Mayor of the City, Mr. Gunter Januth, the Chairman of the Tourism Office, Mr. Rainer Schölzhorn, tens of journalists, photographers & 2 Television Teams, between them just Rai3, which did not lose the opportunity to interview "His Majesty" Lanfranco Dettori. Now we would like to tell you the story of the Event, the incredible meeting that saw the French Team Winning the 3rd Jockey Cup Trophy, sponsored by Sisal - MatchPoint SpA.

Here we are! It is 19th July, three and halve in the afternoon. Outside the "Parade Ring" there are a lot of persons who are waiting for the presentation of the Teams, most of them can not see anything. Now, after a short presentation and the National Anthems, in the middle of the Parade Ring there are 8 Best Jockeys of the World, with over 600 Group Races won during the career: the Italian Team is going to challenge the fierce and “beloved”, coming from behind the Alps French cousins with Mr. Olvier Peslier as a Captain.

The Public! Let's repeat: over 6.000 spectators filled the tribunes of Maia Racecourse. A big curiosity led the people to see face to face some of the most titled worldwide jockeys, who in the name of the spirit of the competition, representing the own Country, started the battle for the Jockey Cup 2009.
